Accessibility statement

LocalRedondoBeach.com is built to be usable by everyone in Redondo Beach, including people who browse with screen readers, keyboards, magnification or voice control. We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA and the expectations of the ADA, and we treat accessibility as ongoing work rather than a one-time audit.

The accessibility toolbar

Every page has an accessibility button in the bottom corner. Your choices are saved in this browser, so the site stays set up the way you need it.

• Adjustable text size

  Three text sizes from the accessibility toolbar, on top of your browser's own zoom, with layouts that reflow without clipping.

• High contrast mode

  A stronger contrast palette for text, buttons and borders, exceeding the 4.5:1 minimum for body text.

• Highlight links

  Outlines and underlines on every link so they're identifiable without relying on colour alone.

• Readable font

  Swaps display typography for a plain, high-legibility face with wider letter spacing.

• Reduced motion

  Turns off transitions and animated effects. We also honour your operating system's reduce-motion setting automatically.

• Large cursor

  An enlarged pointer for easier tracking on large or high-resolution displays.

What we build in

• ✓Semantic HTML landmarks so screen readers can jump between header, main content and footer.
• ✓A skip-to-main-content link as the first focusable element on every page.
• ✓Visible keyboard focus on all interactive elements; nothing requires a mouse.
• ✓Descriptive alt text on photographs, and decorative images hidden from assistive tech.
• ✓Form fields with real labels, required-field indication and errors announced in text.
• ✓Video embeds that keep YouTube's captions and player keyboard controls intact.
• ✓Colour never used as the only way to convey information.

Known limitations

Some content comes from third parties — embedded YouTube players, maps and business-supplied photos. We can't control their code, but we caption our own videos, write our own alt text, and will replace any embed that blocks access.
